Doug’s journey behind the lens began in the fast‑paced world of sports photography, where he spent five years shooting for five regional newspapers. Sideline by sideline, he learned to anticipate the decisive moment—capturing raw emotion, peak action, and the stories that unfold in fractions of a second.
Before digital workflows became the norm, Doug spent eight years working in traditional darkrooms, mastering the craft from the chemical bath to the final print. That hands‑on foundation shaped his eye for detail, tone, and texture, and still influences the way he approaches color, light, and composition today.
He later studied photojournalism at Ohio University, one of the country’s most respected programs, where he refined his storytelling instincts and developed a deep appreciation for honest, human‑centered imagery. The experience cemented his commitment to visual storytelling and continues to guide his work across portraits, sports, events, and cinematic video production.

Sophia brings a strong foundation in stage and production lighting, shaped by hands‑on work across live events, performances, and creative productions. She has a natural sense for how light shapes mood, focus, and visual storytelling—skills that translate seamlessly into both live environments and photography.
She developed her technical abilities early through years on the tech team in her church’s ministry, operating lighting and production elements during weekly services and special events. She later expanded her experience by assisting with lighting setup and operation for multiple school productions, contributing to smooth, professional presentations.
Calm, organized, and collaborative, Sophia thrives in fast‑paced production environments. She excels at crafting lighting setups that enhance atmosphere and visibility while supporting each project’s creative vision. Her blend of technical skill and artistic intuition makes her an essential part of the Sonoran Ember team.
